PURPOSE-DRIVEN ENTERPRISE

Tom Lane was never just another entrepreneur - he was born into a legacy of bold thinking and business brilliance. Raised on Sydney’s north shore with deep ties to the countryside, he grew up straddling two worlds: the relentless energy of city life and the grounded, unhurried pace of the land. That duality shaped his vision - one that fuses innovation with authenticity, progress with purpose.

From luxury retail to sustainable development, Lane’s career has been a masterclass in transformation. He doesn’t just build businesses; he breathes life into ideas, turning them into enterprises that matter.

His journey began at Oroton, the iconic Australian fashion house founded by his grandfather. As a Director, Lane helped steer the brand through one of its most pivotal evolutions, sharpening his expertise in customer experience, branding, and strategic growth - all while ensuring profitability never took a backseat to creativity.

But he wasn’t content with just one success story. Driven by a passion for innovation, Lane launched QuickSmart Homes, a company that reimagined sustainable construction. He spearheaded the development of two groundbreaking, six-story student accommodations for the Australian National University with cutting-edge modular construction and future-proof adaptability, setting a new benchmark for environmentally conscious design.

A trailblazer in Australian modular architecture, this project set new benchmarks for efficiency and innovation. With up to eighteen prefabricated modules arriving and being installed daily, the build optimised both time and cost while ensuring seamless integration of eco-conscious design principles. The result? A revolutionary model for student housing – proving that sustainability, affordability, and architectural excellent can go hand in hand. After scaling the business to success, he sold it - because for Lane, the next challenge is always calling.

That next challenge was The Farm in Byron Bay. What started as an empty paddock became an internationally renowned agritourism destination, drawing over half a million visitors a year. This wasn’t just a business - it was a movement, a place where people reconnected with nature and where sustainability met profitability. The Farm proved that businesses could do more than just survive; they could thrive while staying true to their roots.

Next, Lane’s focus shifted to The Range Estates, a venture dedicated to reimagining both rural and suburban developments. As Co-Founder and Director, he has been instrumental in creating some of the most sought-after projects in Australia.

From Saltwood House in Clontarf to Highview in Newrybar, Copperstone in Bangalow, Highground in the Southern Highlands, Skynest in Mermaid Beach, The Range in Coopers Shoot, The Beach House in East Ballina, The Farm and Kingsley in Byron Bay, Amileka in Federal, QuickSmart Homes in Canberra, Little Manly, Harbour House and Seaview Terrace in Sydney, each development has set new records in property sales, proving that thoughtful, sustainable growth is the future of real estate.

Today, Lane splits his time between advising on boards and consulting on development projects while leading a team of experienced experts in the fields of building and development, design, landscaping, brand and marketing under Tom Lane Consulting.

With a rare blend of vision and execution, he turns ideas into thriving, purpose-driven enterprises. Whether shaping a brand, a business, or an entire landscape, one thing remains constant: Tom Lane doesn’t just follow trends - he creates them.
